The first minute of opening song Hands Across the Sky perfectly captures the album's spirit. My life as far as I can tell / Is a sad little mess / The quest of disappointing myself / Is my only success. Meanwhile the bass drum kicks in impatiently. The sadness is toned down immediately. Parson Brown has grown up and it shows on Does My Heart Look Big In This?. Producer and bass player André van Arnhem made the band sound folkier than before, yet more urgent. Folk rock romanticism they call it, which one could translate as: the songs of folk, with the energy of rock, and with warm and rich arrangements en orchestration. Or maybe it's just great album. In France the single The Crowd has already been released, in Holland we start in two weeks with You Roll. Meanwhile the band focus on playing live again. |
